Religion in Africa
Africa has been regarded as the darkest of all continents yet wealthy in resources. More than two centuries ago, Africans worshiped their own supreme God. But just when African land was invaded by the Europeans and Arabs, Christianity,Hinduism and Islam began to take root. Fear was created by the so called missionaries who later on provided a condition that for one to be a Christian, one had to have a Christian name.
Does religion affect the name or is it one's spiritual endeavor! The African culture has since deteriorated and soon we will be dominated by foreign cultures. Ask a 30 year old African man some important issues in his culture and he won't tell you anything. So was religion created to benefit the few or worship God?If so, then which is the true religion? Is it Christianity where it is believed Jesus the Son Of God is the way, the truth and life, or the Muslim who worship God through Prophet Mohamed but disregard Jesus as being the son of God, or Hindus who worship many gods as it is disregarded by the Christians or the Buddhists?
But again, the same Christianity is decided in different denominations.The Catholics who believe to be the first and the only true church of Christ,Pentecostal,Anglican, Presbyterian,Quakers, Salvation Army who believe baptism is by fire and not water,Adventists who believe Saturday as to be the true sabbath day or the modern churches mushrooming and prophets and prophetesses. Something really surprising is that very few natives from the continent that introduced Christianity to Africa embrace the religion when Africa has the highest percentage of people practicing.
Moreover, most of the elite denominations offerings is always taken to the 'headquarters'. It's up sad that poor people give their offering to enrich few individuals in pretense that the money is going to help the poor when we really understand where that money ends. Why should the offering be used to help the lives of the poor better, they say charity begins at home. There are many churches left in poor conditions while the offering is forwarded to what they call 'headquarters '.People are dying of hunger while crusades and conferences are being held in expensive and royal hotels to preach about the importance of giving to God. There are some churches where the sheep is forced to give more than their earning.It is really annoying to see the kind of insults and rebuke pointed upon those who give little,I wonder if it's God's will for the poor to be treated in that manner.
So a simple question is raised, if only the Christians, Muslims or Hindus will see the kingdom of God, then what about our African ancestors who lived before the introduction the religion? Because I want believe they worshiped supreme being as for for the case of the People from Mt. Kenya region used to worship facing Mt. Kenya. Curiosity demands tough questions to be to be asked, did some people sit down and come up with the religion to create fear in order to control the world and later profit?
