QUARANTINED EPISODE SIX
“Please wake up Brian. Wake up.” Shouted Rose. “ Don’t do this to me, look, your unborn child is here and she will be proud of you. Please open your eyes babe.” She continued to plead. She felt like the Pandora box had been unbolted on her and every element in it decanted down to her. Demons from hell sent by Lucifer had visited her with a series of heartbreaks. She felt the devil’s presence, she smelled his filthy stench.
“Why?” she shouted. Lucifer had triumphed. He had succeeded in taking away her brother James and now the man she loved and the father to her unborn baby. The night was glacially wintry but her body was radiating with extreme heat that covid-19 would render her as an enemy of progress on its mission. Her hands were wobbling and vacillating as strength banished out of her feeble legs.
It was the most confusing moment for Jane. She did not know whether to mourn for James or Brian. Both men meant alot to her. A few hours earlier, she had been mourning for James as she despised Brian. But now she was mourning for both men. “God, is it a sin to love two men?” she questioned God but silently. She was going to bury the two men she loved. The two men that had given her sleepless nights thinking about who to choose as her husband. She had lost and it was a big loss.
She alighted from the police cruiser which was still on, sat next to Brian’s body, held his hand and placed it on her right chick. Brian was still warm but blood was still oozing out from his mouth and nose. His eyes glued on her. She had mixed feelings. She wanted to cry, but the tears solidly stuck in her tear glands.
“Who did this?” asked Mr. Alfred.
“We have no idea sir. But I strongly believe the three ladies are responsible for this man’s death.” Answered the police officer who had been driving. “You criminals are responsible for Brian’s death. Sir these men and their other accomplices whipped and kicked him in his stomach and chest. You idiots killed the father of my unborn child.” Rose shouted as she hit the officer on his chest countless weak blows. Alfred was confused. He did not know who and what to believe. “How could you deny something that you were part of. You guys killed my man in cold blood yet you stand there and shamefully deny.” Said Jane. “Hey girl, give me a break. Brian is my man. He has been my man for the last three years and I am pregnant for him!” Rose jumped in.
Alfred watched intently at the two ladies as they appallingly chucked and gargled insults at each other.
“Stop it,” Alfred silenced them. Jane looked at Rose with a red eye. She wanted to pounce on her and tear her apart. Rose slapped her back with a ferocious face. Her mouth folded with heavy wrinkles around her lips, one would confuse them with the particles of the coronavirus. They were like tigress and lioness, gloomed with anger and hunger gearing up to swoop at one another and tear each other’s throat in the quest of protecting their hunting territory. “What’s wrong with you? Why are you acting like wild old pregnant beasts?” Wondered Alfred.
“Sir, you can see the evidence is pragmatically presenting itself. These are two prostitutes fighting for this man. We are not responsible for this man’s death, but these two ladies are. He must have been injured in their fight when they realized he was cheating on them. Our work is to protect lives sir, not taking them away!”
The officer confessed credulously as his colleague stood beside him nodding his head to signal a unanimous approval but with dozens of questions in his head. He knew the truth; he knew who had cut short Brian’s life. He wanted to shout and say his colleague was vomiting a pool of lies, but he couldn’t. He had his career to protect. “Sir, these girls should unequivocally explain what happened to this man. From the way they explicit their feelings to one another, they are prostitutes masquerading and rummaging around in exploration for rich naïve young men to kill and clutch their money.” Said the second officer who had been guarding Jane and Rose.
“The officers are lying. My sister did not kill Brian. We are innocent.” Said Grace who had been sitting in the car. “This is another prostitute sir.” Shouted the first officer. Grace was gripped with fear and pain. She did not know how to defend her sister Jane and herself. She wished doom against Rose but not this way. Deep down her heart she knew Rose was not a murderer.
“Sir, I hate to admit it but I think the officers are right. The two ladies might have had a hand in your nephew’s death. They should be apprehended and investigated!”Affirmed Alfred’s driver, as he gazed at the two officers. That statement sank Jane’s hopes of ever seeing her daughter again. It was their word against the police officers who had nothing to lose. “Take them away.” Ordered Alfred as he got back to his car.
“Girls, you are under arrest for the Murder of the nephew to the Chief of Staff and Head of Civil Service.!” Said the two officers in unison as they cuffed the three ladies.
