QUARANTINED EPISODE NINE

It was going to be a long day. James sat down, “doctor, tell me this is not happening, because that beautiful angel lying in that ward is my daughter and I love her so much.” He said as he looked the doctor straight to his eyes with anticipation that the doctor would tell him that he was trying to pull his legs. “James, I carried out the test three times but with the same results. I am sorry, Princess is not your biological daughter!” The doctor answered, “furthermore James, you are my best friend and I cannot deceive you.”
James stood up, took the picture frame that was on the doctor’s table and stared at the beautiful young girl that was smiling back at him. It was the doctor’s daughter, Mitchell. “She resembles Princess, her complete copyright.” James said as he returned the picture frame. The doctor felt quite uneasy with this statement.
“This is not happening to me Andrew.” Said James as he called the doctor by his name. James and the doctor were great friends since childhood.
“Bro, you have to be strong, basing on the state of your health. Please don’t let this pressure you. You need not dribble your heart to trauma.” The doctor pleaded with James. But James was already sinking in distress and anguish. The only possession he undoubtedly believed was a result of his procreation had turned out to belong to another. The only thing that made him feel proud and gave him a reason to fight for his health. The only sense of belonging he had and subjected him to soldier on despite the odds. Now he was being told that he was not her father. This could not be possible. “Are you sure my ex-wife Victoria has not corrupted your mind to tell me all this Andrew because I don’t trust that lady. She is a devil!” Asked James as he moved closer to the doctor.
These words were a junk of jokes to the doctor. James was a friend and a brother that he could not betray because of a woman who had no respect for womanhood. “What time is my operation tomorrow?” asked James as he walked towards the door. “It begins at 5am in the morning, you need to be at the hospital today by 5pm,” the doctor answered as he walked with James towards the ward room where Princess and Jane were still waiting for him.
James opened the door and found Jane sitting on the bed, holding Princess’s hands. “Daddy, can I go home. I hate this place.” Confessed Princess as she smiled at him. “Yes sweetheart, you will go home after you have recovered fully.” James struggled to answer. Jane looked at him and she could ascertain that all was not well. His faint voice could tell it all.She wanted to ask but she shelved the talk. “Daddy loves you, okay!” James said to Princess as he kissed her on the forehead and walked out. “Please don’t leave mommy again. She always cries when you are gone. Please promise me you are not going to leave her.” Princess said as she held James’ hands. She looked at him as if she knew what was going on. This was tough for James. “Mommy and daddy will always be there for you.” He answered as he looked at Jane. Jane smiled at him but she knew there was something amiss. James turned to the doctor, parted him on his back and left. “Doctor, is he okay?” asked Jane. The doctor tried to convince her everything was okay but Jane’s instincts were so strong. She knew James well enough. She looked down, with her thumb finger flipping over her lips trying to figure out what would have made James react the way he had reacted. The doctor asked her to join her in his office. “Are you able to donate blood for Princess?” This question affirmed Jane’s feeling. She feared this would happen one day but never expected it to happen this way.
As they say, a woman is a forest of secrets. Jane was the epicenter of this adage. She knew it all, she knew why she was being asked to donate blood for her daughter. She looked at the doctor and asked him if he had unraveled the truth to him. “I was forced to reveal to him. He had to know the truth, but not everything,” the doctor answered as he moved closer to Jane. But you don’t have to worry about anything. He is not going…”just shut up Andrew!” Jane cut the doctor. She accepted to donate the blood. The doctor prepared the necessary equipment to draw out the blood from Jane and sat next to her.
“Why do you smile at me?” Jane asked as she looked away from the doctor whom she had known through James and became great friends. “He doesn’t know the whole truth!” said the doctor who at the moment was holding Jane’s hands in a romantic gesture. “Why didn’t you tell him everything?” asked Jane as she rubbed the doctor’s palm with the fingers of her left hand. “I don’t want to lose him as a friend. He has been so good to me.” The doctor said as he stammered.
This was strange, in fact a mysterious story that began several years ago when James and Jane visited Andrew (the doctor) at his clinic. James had less blood and needed more. He was admitted for three days for the blood transfusion exercise to take place. The second day as Jane came to check up on him, Andrew had made some further tests on James and discovered something peculiar. James’ heart was weak and was bound to fail in the coming few years.
Andrew looked at Jane, a beautiful, gorgeous young sweet lady who had a bright future but was madly in love with a handsome young man who thought he had a grand future, but uncertain that his tomorrow had been cluttered by his heart’s status quo. He felt pity for James but fell immensely in love with Jane. Andrew called Jane in his office and explained everything to her. At first, she was in denial. She did not believe that James had been left with few years to live. But there was something else that made her fear for James. He was sterile. This alone meant that her future had been clouded by a smoke of uncertainties and ignominy. James could not sire a child.
She loved James so much, but this was a turning point in her life. She wanted children of her own. She wanted to be called mommy and one day become a grandmother. With James, this was not going to be possible. This drove her to the wrong lane. A lane that she never knew where it would lead her to but she trusted it would end well. She developed feelings for Andrew and they both started seeing each other.
Sometimes, Andrew could admit James forcefully at the hospital just for him to spend time with Jane. Princess was the product of that contemptible relationship. She was the biological daughter to Andrew.
“It’s enough. That will be enough for our daughter.” Andrew said as he removed the needle from her arm. As he was removing the needle, they locked their eyes for a moment but the attraction between the secret lovebirds was so strong and they began making out. None of them thought of this being obnoxious. They made out for a few moments only for the doctor to come back to his senses and gently pushed Jane away. “We cannot do this here Jane.” Said Andrew as he adjusted his tie and pulled up his pair of trousers. Jane had already been driven into the mood. She wanted Andrew, she tried to beg him but Andrew valued his job. “This is my office, furthermore, anyone can walk in here and find us. I will organize for us to meet the day after tomorrow.” Andrew convinced Jane who at the moment had pulled back and sat on the chair that was next to the window.
“You need to tell James that Princess is your daughter or I will tell him myself before he goes for the operation.” Jane said. “You don’t need to tell me. I heard and saw everything. Andrew thanks for everything. I thought you were my friend, my brother but I guess I was damn wrong. Continue enjoying yourselves.” James said as tears rolled down his eyes. He  felt more weak and appeared emaciated.
